Diego

This story tells the life of Diego Rivera from his childhood and how he became a famous Mexican painter. The story is told in both English and in Spanish and contains colorful illustrations that follow the story. The story is also historically correct but it does describe how Diego painted what he saw, even when Mexican soldiers were killing innocent people. It would be a book that I would read to older kids, like my high school kids, not to younger children. It is a great book though to inspire children to follow their passion, just like Diego did with art.

  1. My students love the books that are bilingual. Most of my students are taking Spanish and they like to read the Spanish version and check for their accuracy on the English side. Thanks for the review.

  2. I have read this book to my kindregarten & 1st graders even though there is a depiction of violence. That page, in particular, is usually a good starting point to talk about civil disobedience & standing up for what you think is right because the children always have a lot of questions about it. This biography has such great illustrations & tells the story of his life in a PG version.
